[nagdu] taxi transport

Hi Carol:

You don't have to worry about it since my school is in Canada, Dog Guides Canada, so it's not likely a place you'd go to. However, when attending a trainig program I would ask to get some guidance with using public washrooms with a dog and ideas for correctly getting in and out of cabs. Bogart has figured out what I usually want to do at a washroom and often takes me to the urinals. He usually wants to leave but is easily redirecrted to find the counter (sink). Should work on paper towel dispensers since those are often hard to find. But I just recall the first time I went to use a big public washroom with bogart and no cane, it felt scary. I carry an id cane around in my back pack for situations like this but I'm not always dragging around my big bag. It just doesn't go with my professional business look. :)

Gary

May I ask what school you went to. I think training in restrooms would be very important.

He comes in and lies on the floor. I check his tail and then close the door. Once he is in I slide over to sit behind the driver. I too have to make sure bogarts long nose doest head to the driver. I would never let bogart on the seat of a taxi. I'm like others that believe seats are for people and the floor is for the dog. I usually get the driver to move the passenger seat up. If I'm with somone else then either the other person sits in the front or I sit on the rear passenger side with the seat forward and put in one foot, call bogart in and then the other foot while he and I try to sort out floor space in a polite cooperative manner. :)

I sadly learned this when visiting my girlfriends parents at christmas. We had just walked through slush and snow to get to the car. I opened the door and asked bogart to get in and he promptly, to my horror, jumped up on the nice clean seats!!

Some drivers won't allow any passengers to sit in the front. I govern the dog's face because he wants to stick it up toward the console to see whasup. Sometimes, he tries to check out if there is a sandwich up there or sniff the driver. I make him turn back and lay his head down on the floor or put his chin on the seat. I always get in on the passenger's side of the cab. I don't know why this is.
