[nagdu] blazing trails with tails.

Sorry, Julie; must be heat exhausted still. I'm thinking of all the good
cues we no longer have that we once learned and trying to find replacements.
BTW, is there an o&m list one can join if one isn't too talkative
but can listen and learn?
Very apologetically,
Darla

Darla,

I'm confused. what was it about what I wrote that set your teeth on edge?
Or are you referring to a different Julie? I think there are at least three
Julie's on the list.

I learned O&M via the structure discovery methodology. You learn a basic
set of skills and the ability to apply them in a wide variety of situations,
which enables you to go where ever you like without needing specific
instruction on the route.

I'm not a big fan of waiting on other people so I can go do what I want to
do. I'm glad I learned O&M the way I did. It fits me and my needs quite
well.

Julie

Dear Marion,
That is what I was trying to say, but Julie's points about route teaching
set my teeth on edge so bad; while there aren't as many of the kinds of cues
apparently Julie and I learned, there are still an awful lot of tools that
can be used that will help you most anywhere you travel.

Daniel,
If I got O&M every time I went to a new place I would be getting it every
day! I think good O&M teaches you to apply your skills wherever you may be,
so there is no need to get an orientation every time!

Hey guys, as yall know I'm going to be moving to a new town for college
quite soon. While I was in training (I can't remember if it was an
instructor or not) someone off-handedly said something like, always have a
sighted person help you on a new route or something.I've always been a
really independent person trying new routes and what not. I can understand
getting some orientation help in a new place but for everything? How do yall
feel about going new places without an advanced orientation session or such?
Do yall usually stick to a preplanned set of routes or do yall sometimes go
new places just for the heck of it? I'm asking this from a dog users
perspective, how does your dog react on a new route or a place, and
especially if any of yall have moved to a new city or home, how did yall get
used to the new surroundings?

Thanks,

Dan
