I'm so glad yall responded like this! Thank yall so much. I just couldn't
believe that every dog user got sighted assistance wherever they went. And
this gives me some ideas on how to learn a route just her and I .

Hi Dan,

I think, for me personally, that getting sighted help with every single new
route is not very practical. I do get a couple of O&M sessions when I first
move to a new city if I can, but otherwise I learn new routes by taking the
dog, sometimes using a GPS, bringing a cane, and just doing it. I have
gotten very lost a few times, but since I have the skills to get myself
unlost again, I actually don't mind too much. Getting lost can actually
teach me some valuable things about the area I'm travelling in most of the
time.

I think it's fine to learn routes with just you and the dog, but I would
advise carrying a folding cane with you in case you need it to figure out
stuff about the environment that your dog can't help with for whatever
reason.
