[nagdu] greetings. access issue

Larry,
This is a good question and affords an opportunity to share some
general information. An employee with a disability who wishes a reasonable
accommodation under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act is
required to request such an accommodation from the employer. When requesting
such an accommodation, the individual with a disability would be required to
document the nature of the disability and the specific accommodation
requested. These accommodations must be granted unless doing so would
present an undue hardship to the employer.

Fraternally yours,
Marion Gwizdala

Could a reasonable accomidation be construed as keepping a worker away from
dogs if they are allergic? For example, if Jeff worked at the gym, could
jobs be assigned so that they didn't comme in contact with one another much?

Not so much an access issue as an accomidation for the person with the
allergy.

Margo,
Actually, this is not so! A person is not required to divulge their
disability to a place of public accommodation. The only requirement to
divulge a disability under the ADA is in Title I should a person request a
reasonable accommodation for employment.

And to add to what Mike said, the person with the allergies would have to
bring documentation from a doctor that the allergy is a true disability, why
it is, etc. there are ways to work around people with allergies to dogs.
Sometimes, too, people say they have allergies and they don't, so, you have
that added to the mix.

Your dog, though, is allowed in any case and accommodations have to be
worked out if the allergy is a true disability which most aren't.

Jeff,

Your rights trump others. They violate the law if they deny you access with
your guide dog. Remember, it is YOU who have the right to take your guide
dog with you. The dog has NO rights, you do.

If someone has allergies then first they need to prove that their allergies
constitute a true disability. Then the Gymn has to work with you and the
other party to find a reasonable accommodation. In no case is such an
accommodation denying you the right to bring your guide.

I hope this helps.

Best,

Hello everyone,
My name is jeff crouch, and I am 16 years old and am going to start training
with a guide dog on auguist 18th at Pilet dogs.

I am wanting to know about something that I was told by a manager at a place
where I workout at. She told me that I will not be able to bring my guide
dog in because one of her clients who works out at that gym is allergic to
dogs and that the client made a ordeal about the last service dog that came
in. I don't know how to preseed, weather I just leave it alone and not take
the dog when I go to workout, or what I should do. Advice would be greatly
apreschated.
thanks
