[nagdu] Hot Asphalt Awareness!

I am not sure if they are huring him, because when he's in pain, 
he cries lwhdly.  However with these, he acted fine when at the 
school, but now when I put them on, he licks at his paws and will 
try to get them off.  I think they irritate his paws because he 
has allergies because of the dirt up here.  His ears and paws are 
usually always red, so the boots probably irritate his paws, 
because his pads are rough because he will just lay there and 
lick his paws constantly, even with the booties off.

	What you are saying is that your dog hates the boots, but 
that is
not quite what I am asking.  I guess that I should have phrased 
my question
differently.  Do the boots hurt his feet? Some dog boots can make 
the dog's
feet irritated .  I have to be careful when Lexia wears hers 
because they
sometimes bother her front feet.  So, before working on getting 
your dog to
not mind the boots, you need to make sure that they are not 
hurting him.

Ys, he hates them with a passion.  and when he has them on, he 
tries to kick
them off of his back paws, and he walks all drunk-like.

Ok but when
i put hi boots on as soon as he's not walking he chews his paws 
constantly,
with or withwht the boots on.  Yeah if I associate the booties 
with treats.

What brand are shoes ? The ones that I occasionally use are 
ruffware (not
sure if I spelled that correctly).

Perhaps you could try having your dog wear the shoes around the 
house for
short periods of time to get him used to them.  Start with only 
one shoe for
a short time.  When you put it on him, try to keep him calm, and 
then give
him a treat afterwards.  Even though he may not like the shoes, 
he will
probably come to tolerate it better knowing that he will get a 
treat for it.

Hi list,

What should a guide dog handler do in a situation where the dog 
hates having
the shoes put on? It takes me like 45 minutes to put his shoes on 
because he
fights me the whole time.  Then, when I finally do get the them 
on, we
walked about 3 houses down and they had fallen off his paws 4 
times.

This is a chart which shows how hot asphalt gets :
 When it is 87 degrees outside (air temperature) the asphalt is
143 degrees.  At 125 degrees skin destruction can take place in 
60 seconds!
Hints:
Walk your pup early in the day - leave home in this hot weather!
If you have to go out - press the back of your hand firmly 
against the
pavement for 7 seconds...  if it is comfortable for you it will 
be ok for
your pup.
