Another method is to load the dog from the opposite side from where
you will be sitting so that its head is facing the door. In this way, the
dog does not need to get on the seat when exiting. An alternative is to exit
on the opposite side from where you sit for the same reason.

I do something similar, with the main difference being that I turn my dog
around once I get in. This way, I have control of her head. She usually
stays out of trouble, but she will sometimes try to lean her head on the arm
rest or console that is between the two front seats. Some drivers don't mind
this and actually think that it is kind of cute, but, otherwise, I make sure
that her nose stays well in the back seat. Also, she always rides on the
floor, no exceptions.

Daniel,
When I sit in the back seat of a taxicab, I generally sit in the
back seat of the passenger's side. I ask the driver to put the seat all the
way forward so my dog has room to lie on the floor. I load my dog in first
then enter the cab with my feet nearest the door. (This is where my dogs
tail is. FYI, I have been in a cab with three people nd three dogs, so there
is plenty of room. One piece of advice is to not tell the cab company you
will be accompanied by your guide dog. Taxicabs are considered public
accommodations under the ADA and , since they cannot deny you access with
your dog, provide you with an unequal benefit, nor a separate benefit, the
presence of your dog is irrelevant. Should you ever call for a cab and are
asked if you will be bringing your guide dog, advise them that they cannot
ask that question. If they do ask, it is a sure sign you are flagged in the
system. If doing so results in long wait times, it may be due to the company
providing you an unequal benefit. Do not hesitate to get in touch with me
should this happen.

Hi all,

Just a quick question, I have never used a taxi, but would like to with this
hot weather (on occasion).

I am not sure how to put my girl in. Should I get in, put my feet over
behind the driver and then have the girl hop up to the floor behind the
passenger seat?

Since I have never been in a taxi, I am not sure how much foot room there is
in the back seat. When I ride with friends, she rides on the floorboard in
front of me in the front passenger seat.

We did not cover this when I was at school, I guess because I didn't think
it was important at the time, my bad.

Any suggestions?
