Hi Eve,
First, before I forget, Moderators, would you please change my email address

Now, Eve to your question.  Because you have greater control of the dog.s 
head with the head collar - your Halti, you will know sooner that your dog 
is picking up stuff off the floor or soliciting attention from people.  Give 
the dog's head a GENTLE tug AWAY from the distraction and remind "Leave it" 
or whatever similar command Pilot uses.  You must NEVER jerk the leash when 
attached to a head collar like you do with a choke chain.  Does your dog try 
to interact with people as you are walking down a sidewalk or does it happen 
when you are in a big crowd or standing and talking with people like at an 
event or party?  If you are standing still and talking, hold the leash short 
and keep the dog's head fairly close to your leg.  Don't force the dog to 
have his face on your leg, just very close and under control.  Use the Halti 
every time until the dog realizes that socializing withouot your permission 
is not the thing to do.  I had to do this with Landon for almost TWO YEARS 
before he settled down and quit doing it as much.  Even now, I still carry 
it - or rather Landon carries it in his pouch so I can stop and put it on 
him when I find myself correcting him for distraction more than one leash 
correction.

The head collars tend to "cool their jets" so to speak and the dog tends to 
act more reserved in the collar than out of it.  If anyone gives you a 
hassle about "putting that muzzle" on the dog, you can just tell them that 
it is NOT a muzzle but a device just like the halter put on a horse and it 
gives you better control  They've been on the market since the mid 1990s and 
more people know what they are now and I get no trouble from anyone.

Lyn, First, yes the leash still has a built in muzzle, but if the dog
needs it they also give out Haltys andwhatever equipment is warranted.
Now, are you saying the Halty helps with the socializing of passing
humans? I never thought of using it for something like that. Could you
explaing please how this would work? I still have Doxie's Halty and
though I have no problem with Taylor sniffing, she is easily tempted
into socialization. Actually she always pcis things up too, so maybe I
should have already thought of using one to keep her head up and her
mouth empty. Hmmm. Well, now that I am thinking of that... Still, let
me know about the socializing thing wil ya? Thanks, Eve
