Steph,
You might not want to tie down your dog, but you definitely don't want
her chewing up a bunch of stuff during the night. Pick the lesser of
two evils. It'll save you money, and keep your dog out of mischief and
danger. Either get a good crate. Or, if you can't afford one, shut the
door to your bedroom and confine your dog in there at night. You know
what's on your
 own floor, and you can keep your area clean. You can't control your
family and what they do, only you and your dog.
