[nagdu] Marking

Bobette,

Well, mine is a female marker, so I don't know what I have that is
useful for a male. Probably treating it like you do sniffing would be
the way to go. Some people inhibit that altogether in harness; others
will let the dog get it out of their system by permitting certain places
to sniff or leave a quick message, if that makes sense. I actually have
a specific corner where Mitzi can log in and Tweet; I recognize the
corner and it's convenient for me to take a breather and all that, so
it's what works for us.

Was the event where you thought he was going to lift a leg indoors or
outdoors? Does he have some behavior you can use to know when he might
want to do the deed? If so, you can redirect the behavior before it
starts or remind him to remember his manners. Usually, dogs need a good
sniff while they compose their own message, so that can be a clue. /smile/

You've mentioned he's a really new dog. Is he also really young? Could
he be still needing more maturity, in other words? Have you made any
progress with the bonding with him? Just kind of wondering if thinking
about marking could be part of his testing you or something.
