I read this on the Pilot list, and it was very sad.

May Simon's spirit live on!

Guide dog dies after pushing 4-year-old boy away from speeding car

The brave dog, Simon, was struck by the car, but bounced up in time to push
the little boy, Will, away from the car. Dave Furukawa, the
visually-impaired owner of the brindle boxer, said the dog showed "true
loyalty and courage."

A beloved guide dog died after he pushed a 4-year-old Atlanta boy away from
the path of a moving car that ran a stop sign - seconds after the pooch was
struck, the owner said.

Dave Furukawa - the visually-impaired owner of the brindle boxer, Simon -
said he was walking his son, Will, to school when a red Chrysler ran through
the stop sign and hit the pooch as they crossed a street on Monday.

But the brave dog bounced back up in time to push Will out of the way,
witnesses said.

"What people have said is that Simon either got up or jumped out, and pushed
my son out of the path of the car," Furukawa told WXIA-TV.

"This is true loyalty and courage."

Several bystanders rushed over to the boy and picked him up from the ground.
As they carried him to his mother down the street, Simon hobbled alongside.

"Broken leg, and he had a gash on his side and he had internal bleeding -
but he followed home," Furukawa said. "Once he was sure Will was okay, he
laid down."

The family rushed the injured 80-pound dog to an emergency vet, but Simon
died on the way.

Cops later cited the car's driver, Calvin Armour, with running a stop sign
and failing to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk, the NBC affiliate
reported.

Police said Armour was driving at a high rate of speed when he went through
the intersection, the station reported.

Pilot Dogs, Inc. - the Columbus, Ohio, group who provided Simon to Furukawa
said they will give the family another guide dog.

But Furukawa said Simon's spirit will never be forgotten.

"He's been my eyes and buddy," he said. "He loved my son."
