Darla,
Sorry for the slow response. I have been sick for the last two weeks. I am now feeling some what human again.
I use my support cane just as if I were not using a guide dog too. When I take a step with my left foot, the cane goes forward. The only major issue is that when your using a guide dog and support cane, you have no other hands for anything else. My guide dog was trained specially for me, knowing that I would need to use a support cane. some dogs, are afraid of the cane, my last guide was. But my current guide always just knows that she must slow down when I use it. Does this answer your question?
