[nagdu] Sore paw?

Darla,

I'm completely baffled, and driving myself absolutely crazy thinking of what it could have been that got lodged in there. On one hand, it's been so gritty and dusty and gravelly after the snow melt that she could've stepped on anything and just not let me know.. whatever it is, it's so small that the vet actually couldn't see it (perhaps it's already gotten out, but the infection site sealed up?) On the other hand, I touch her paws ALL the time when playing, snuggling, cleaning... and had no inkling something wasn't right!

Baffled Daryl and apathetic Jenny ("who cares what I got in there? My Paw's all bandaged!")

Dear Darrel Marie,
It sounds like she is going to be just fine, though we will all be
curious to know what she got lodged into her pad such that you couldn't feel
it; I bet in a few days, you'll never know she had a sore paw.

Hey!

The vet appointment went as well as could be expected. Poor Jenny girl got
something in one of her pads that wound up getting stuck in there. The vet
drained it (there was a little bit of pus) and now that there's a small
opening she hopes that whatever it is can work its way out of the paw over
the next couple days. her paw is all wrapped up in clingwrap and there's a
tenser bandage over top of that. We have a couple of disposable booties
that fit her regular paws too big, but will work great for keeping the
tenser bandage dry! She's also been given anti-inflamatories and
anti-biotics to fight the minor infection and get the swelling down.

Poor Jenny had a hard time of it! She got so squirmy when the vet was
working on the paw that my husband basically had to lay on her to keep her
still. Then the vet left to get clingwrap and Jenny was just up and wagging
her tail. We also met another guide dog team in the waiting room while
waiting for Jenn's prescriptions. BTW, the vets were just great! They cut
her antibiotic pills in half for me (nice bonus!), and put doses of her
liquid anti-inflamatories into syringes so that I give her the right amount!

Since coming home an hour ago, she's walking on her paw and moping a little.
The vet said walking shouldn't be an issue, but keep things low-key for a
few days. Thankfully there's another bus route that can get me to work.
It's not as direct, but it is considerably less walking.

Now she's pretty exhausted and is laying on her bed. She's earned the night
off!

Relieved Daryl and the sleepy Jenny (who feels really sorry for herself)

she wouldn't even do her 3/4 turn to avoid the door by the back stairs at
work. I've got a vet appointment for her for 4:30... I have tot hink I'm
being hyperactive, but I just KNOW something's not right...
