My favorite breed is the American white shepherd. The white shepherd was part of the original breeding stock of the German Shepherd dog. In the 1930s The whites were rejected by the breed organization. As a result the white shepherd went a different route and never became guard or police dogs they remained true to the original breed requirements of sound temperament and body They are much more mellow then a standard GSD and they don't have any of the health problems bread into modern GSD's.

My white shepherd Walker is the sweetest and the smartest dog I have ever known. He comes from one of the most exceptional caring breeders I have ever met

They have terrier toughness, which could make them excellent city dogs, though it would add a challenge to training. They've been successful in police and military work. I don't know if this indicates aggressiveness--they are terriers--or a willingness and ability to do hard work. Anyway, I think they'd be an interesting breed as guides.
