Hi Rachel, my name is Donna Elliott. I am currently working my third guide dog, all from Guiding Eyes. I can not say enough wonderful things about Guiding Eyes, training, staff and follow up. There is a twenty four hour line for calls and an emergency number. Whether you want to discuss a training issue, simply have a question or want to speak to the veterinary hospital, there are people to answer your questions. Class size has been decreased in 2014 as they have gone to a three week schedule for classes after several trial classes last year. The structure is not as formal as TSE and graduates generally feel apart of the GEB family. I really like how in the second week, you meet one on one with your trainer to discuss areas that you need to work on and challenges you may meet at home. For example, I live down the street from an elementary school and wanted to be sure my guide was not child distracted. I went to a Toys R Us and a residential area after school got out to discover my dogs reactions. Someone else knew they had to cross train tracks and were brought to an area to practice on the tracks.
As far as relieving the guide dog, they are taught to relieve on command. I have lived in several apartments and have not had any problems.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have either here on the list or you can email me off list.
