Hi every one, Mardi here. I have always trained all my guide dogs as if I
were a totally blind person. Also if I am training a guide for some one
else.I could become totally blind as the dry form of macular degeneration
has no treatment and I want my dogs to be ready for it should it happen to
me.Even if I can see something that I could avoid, I let my dog do the
avoiding of what ever is in the way.I trust my dogs to stop or let me know
if something is in the way.In other words, I let the dog do his job and I
do not try to do the dog's job for him.IMHO, I think all guides should be
trained as if the handler will be a totally blind person.I think the dog is
less likely to make mistakes that way. Mardi and Shaman and
Neechee.
