[nagdu] dental treats

I use Greenies, and Lexia absolutely loves them. My vet recommended twice a
week, but I usually do three times a week because, to Lexia, they are the
best thing in the world.

Subject: [nagdu] dental treats

Hi,

I know other GDB grads probably received the email from our vet about
additional dental preventatives. I was looking into these and was trying to
decide if I wanted to try one of these.

Has anybody been using either "Checkups" or Bright Bites" dental treats. I
went to the website and was impressed by the fact they were actually
endorsed by the dental board as being verified to effectively remove or
reduce up to 60% of plaque.

I tried to get a sample at Petco and PetsMart since both are close to me but
they do not carry them. They are available at the independent pet shops a
bit further from me or online, but before I went to the trouble I wanted to
check with you all to see if anyone had any experience with either.

I did get a product sample called "whimzees" from Petco which is apparently
similar. It is shaped like a dinosaur with spikes. It is hollow and large.
It took Cass several minutes to chew it and she loved it. The shape was such
that it could reach up in the gums and such. It is made of only vegetable
ingredients and of that only 6, and totally digestible.

I like the idea as a supplement to brushing, and anything to keep those
pearly whites clean and fresh is fine in my book. I don't give her any
treats, and these only call for one after each feeding.

Any thoughts?
