[nagdu] Retiring a dog early

Hi, Jewel.

It's always hard to retire a dog. If the two of you have bonded, I don't think it matters if you've had the dog for eight months or eight years. It's just really, really hard.

When I retired my previous two dogs, I was sure I would not be able to love my successor dogs. However, in time, it happened. It's not something you can rush. It happens over time. You'll come to appreciate what the new dog has to offer. You'll recogize differences in the way the two dogs work, play, etc., but different doesn't necessarily mean bad.

The best I can say is to meet your new dog with an open mind and heart.

We decided together it would be best to return Faye to the school and start the intake for a new dog. I put so much love and time into this relationship over the past eight months I have had her, I am having trouble dealing with this. Is there any advice on how to enjoy the last of the time I have with her and how to let go when I must? I am also afraid of not being able to put as much love into my next guide dog relationship. Did you find it easy to fall in love with a successor dog?
