I agree with Darla on this one; You and your dog draw enough attention just by being a team.  You mentioned people petting your dog without your knowledge; painting your dog's nails (assuming she'll let you) may invite more unwanted attention and can greatly interfere with your work.

No, Danielle; my dogs draw enough attention as it is.  I do know a friend
who painted her male Golden's nails, though I have forgotten the color.

If you decide to do it, make sure you get nail polish designed for pets.
