[nagdu] Struggles with relieving?

Brandi,
Jenny has NEVER done this before - the whimper/whine is a very clear indicator that she has to go outside, and aside from the past two days, she has never given it unnecessarily.
I keep her on a fairly steady schedule, though it does vary... I am always conscious of when she goes... if she has to go when we first wake up (indicated by one or more gutteral whines), then I may take her out again before I step into daily meetings. If she's good until we leave the house, then lunchtime, and so forth.

As for Nicole's question about grazing... depends on the day. Right now it's a problem, but I do redirect her and that seems to stop the behavior... until she forgets again. She is curious about plants but lately has left them alone.

Hi all,
My view is a little different. Yes time outside is good but make sure it is on your terms. I don't know what your school said but most schools here say put the dog on a schedule. This doesn't mean they won't have to go outside of this but this should be rare this way you know that it isn't their scheduled time and she is pulling your leg. I'd say in 10 months pinta has indicated once that she had to go outside of a scheduled time. With Ricky it was more like monthly. I had a dog that would whine and whine until she got whatever she wanted. Her sister also did this in class. The owner would immediately take the dog outside to lay in the sun when she whined. What if you are in a meeting and your dog says, hey I want to go outside and son bathe. You won't know which is which. My dog personally hates laying outside unless she has a blanket. If it's sixty she is too cold if seventy its too hot, after about a half an hour she will poke me and look at the door. However she hates being inside while I'm out so a blanket and a chair to lay under is her preference, though typically she isn't high maintenance.

I am starting to spend some more time outside with her now that the weather is nice enough... taking her to the park, etc., even having her sit and relax outside with hubby and I if we're eating on the back patio (we don't let her on that lawn because the grass hasn't grown in yet and we've just planted a garden). If weather permits, I do like to groom her outside and just sit in the sunshine and she really likes that. I think you're right; she's indicating that she wants to be out in the sun more. We also go on on-leash (out-of-harness) walks that she loves... perhaps I've been making a mountain out of this molehill. Jenny's been hybernating really for a long time due to our harsh cold winter, so she's probably wanting to soak up some time outside. My boss has even encouraged taking brain breaks in good weather and take Jenn for a walk around the block (in harness, but still outside and we're not GOING anywhere).
