[nagdu] OK to stay

When Ben moved in, he took over an old armchair and made it his home base
and default spot. Lately though, he sometimes lies on the floor, which of
course is fine, but, if one of us comes into the living room, he jumps up
and rushes to his chair, like he's been caught in the wrong place. If I'm
sitting in the living room, he may lie on the floor, but, if I get up, he
jumps up and gets in his chair.
I'm trying to figure out how to tell him that it's OK to lie on the floor,
and there's no need to jump up. I've tried sneaking up and petting him a
bit on the floor, but it's hard to get to him before he jumps up. I could
put him back on tie-down for a bit, but it's been years, and seems like
overkill.
Any ideas? Have I said before that he's a strange fellow?
I don't recall ever stepping on him, but he may remember if I did.
