[nagdu] Managing Groceries and Other Large Purchases

Dear All,
Merry and I have a couple ways we manage transporting large
purchases. About four years ago, after wearing out a few suitcases on wheels
(they are not meant to carry heavy items long distances; rather only from a
vehicle to airport check-in), we purchased a wagon. Mind you, it was not a
red flyer wagon; it is a steel wagon with high mesh steel rails and
pneumatic tires. We paid about $80 for it at Lowes. It has served us well
and is still in pretty good shape, in spite of the fact that there is no
room to store it in our shed, so it is exposed to the elements! The
challenge with the wagon is that it is far to large to transport on the bus!

About a month ago, Merry saw a large trunk on wheels at Lowes for
about $49. Though it is a pretty large trunk, it is not too large to
transport on the bus. The trunk itself is very durable plastic (I sit on it
while waiting for the bus), has a strong aluminum handle, steel snaps with
rings to accommodate padlocks, and pretty large wheels. Shortly after she
purchased it, I carried home 80 pounds of dog/cat food in it. The other day,
we toted home about $70 worth of groceries with plenty of room for another
$70 worth! I highly recommend both the wagon and the trunk. They have been
well worth the investment!

With warm regards,
Marion

Is shopping online an option? I do this for several items, including
groceries and Lexia's dog food.

Hi,
My roommate and I bought laundry baskets that have wheels and come with
lids. These have been really helpful, especially when we had to buy dishes
for our apartment. We also use cloth grocery bags. We have about 7 or 8.
When I grocery shop by myself, I bring one of the laundry baskets. It makes
carrying groceries home easier, whether you have a nosy dog or not.
