I'm not sure what you're sorry about but helping me calm down from my anxiety and panic attacks is considered performing a service under the ADA that has been enforced in court many times in the past.

Sorry, but only if the dog performs a task is it considered a service dog 
under the ADA.  The FHA allows dogs if they will allow the owner equal 
enjoyment of the dwelling.  It is the training that makes the service dog.

Under the ADA and Fair Housing Act dogs which help people calm down from 
disabling anxiety attacks or panic attacks (or in Spike's and my case both) 
are legally considered service dogs.

In order for a dog to be considered a service dog under the ADA, the
following must be met:

1. the person has to have a disability.  this means some sort of impairment
that interferes with tasks of daily living.

2. The dog has to be individually trained to do tasks or perform work that
mitigate the person's disability.

So, yes, service dogs for PTSD can be legitimate service dogs if the
handler's PTSD is severe enough to be considered to be a disability and the
dog does something to assist the handler.  I've read stories of dogs who go
first into rooms to check for intruders or to turn on light switches.  The
person then feels at ease entering a new place, thus mitigating the
disability.  that's just one example, but you get the idea.

Hi everyone posting on this topic. I thought I now saw somewhere that PTSD
dogs are now covered under the ADA. Perhaps I'm wrong though.
