[nagdu] guide dog school problem

John,
I personally wouldn't get a dog and then try to catch up in class. You want
to enjoy your first dog, and as Scotty from Star Trek said "You'll never
feel this way again". It's worth enjoying. College is too, and really all of
life is. It isn't about rushing from thing to thing and squeezing in as much
as you can as quickly as you can.
All that being said, if you are determined to proceed with your plan, find
out from college how they deal with nontraditional students. If you were due
to have a baby, your college couldn't say "No, have it next year". Ditto for
a broken leg, a major surgery, a deployment, you get the idea.
Realize that you have a lot of options. The college, and the guide dog
school you've selected aren't the only games in town. The timing you've
slected isn't the only time in town either.
Good luck with whatever you do.

Good point, Rebecca; many college students today are "nontraditional" in so
many ways; schools need to be flexible, when they can.

Is the college's policy to keep students from screwing around? I ask because
people do have life events happen that the school just has to deal with.
I'd at least go talk to someone in charge and have a conversation.

Well, there's nothing you can do about your college's policy, so the best
you can do is to see whether the guide dog schools can speed up your
application process and get you into a class sooner. If not, you might have
to wait until winter break or summer to get your dog.
