[nagdu] an update on Soleil and me

Rox, good luck! BTW, if you can figure out how to get Soleil to prefer work over scrounginess, let me know! I see a bit of hope with Jenny so will pass on anything I found that worked. Yesterday we had a whole scrounge-free afternoon!

Yes, you can do it. I've always liked your training methods and the way that
you work with your dogs. I'm also glad that you did not fall for the trap
for which most people fall: It has to be a ... Fill in the blank with some
breed. I told GDB that I wanted a lab, but I also told them what it was that
I wanted in a dog and left the final decision up to them. I wonder if the
"bottomless pit" stomach has anything to do with her life with her previous
owner.

<lol> Rox, but if anyone can convince her she'd rather work than eat, it's
you; sure wish I could meet them.

Laveau is a Doberman mix. I like her work ethic and low distractability. A
lab was not my first choice, but I was mostly concerned about temperament.
Breed was low on the list, just because this was so unexpected. Soleil has
a heart of gold, and a bottomless pit for a stomach. lol

very interesting. What breed is laveau?

those who do not know me, my name is Rox'E, I'm Deafblind, with severe
balance issues from the disease which damaged my hearing. Soleil my yellow
lab is my new dog. I'm an owner trainer, and since Laveau my working dog
for the last 6 years has kidney disease, her vet strongly suggested I begin
training another dog since it's impossible for me to use a white cane and
have the level of independence I do with a dog.
>> I'm pleased to say that Soleil has completed guide dog and mobility brace
and counterbalance training. She has taken and passed both the ADI public
access test and the canine good citizen test offered by the ACK. Both tests
were given by a neutral trainer whom neither she, nor I, had met before. I
also have about 5 hours of video showing her working in various situations,
should there ever be an access issue which must be resolved in court.

training.

>> Laveau is doing well, but tires easily, and cannot work outside once we
get into the really hot temps- I live in Louisiana, so it's good Soleil is
ready to go. She is still very green- like a dog who has just come home
with its handler. And I look forward to walking many miles with her.
