[nagdu] Odd behavior this a.m.

Hey, Tami,

That was my first thought - construction, barricades, etc. - but no one who works near my desk goes down that street and can tell me what's going on on that stretch. I think I'm going to take her for a walk down that same area and see what she does. Coworker says it might've been a bunny that distracted her, but as I said before she didn't give me any distraction behavior.

Agreed with the communication. Jenn's a communicative dog. She's by no means perfect, but she will communicate if something's wrong. She'll find me the steps (or an elevator) if an escalator is blocked by people or construction/resoration gear.

Will let ya know.

Daryl

Daryl,

Hm... Could be she saw something up ahead to avoid and was getting you
out of the way of it. When Mitzi pauses or just does a stutter step then
takes firm action like that, it usually turns out there was a reason.
Enough times I've heard whatever it was after she was reacting or a
sighted person told me what went down or what was going on up ahead that
I've learned to trust her at times like that. It's very different from
when she wants to meet a kitty or go sniff something over there or whatever.

Or it could just be an aberration. It's hard to tell if whatever the dog
is responding to doesn't make noise. I guess what I would do is see if
she does it again in other places, and if she does it again in the same
place. If it was only in that one place, then I would try to find out if
there is construction or a new dog that might be dangerous or something
like that beyond the point where she turns into the alley to try to
figure out what she is responding to.

Mitzi also pays attention to traffic patterns and likes to know what all
is going on around us and ahead of us so that she can respond
predictively. I like it because I get a lot of communication from her
and can have a clue. Also, I would rather have occasional confusing
changes in direction than a constant series of near disasters. /smile/

There was no construction equipment in the way (none motorized, anyway), dog, person she knows, or any distraction behaviors (wagging tail, whining, etc.) She just boogied down that alley. I've never seen her do that.
