[nagdu] A goose is hissing at my dog!

Geese can be bad news. A dog the size of a Labrador or German Shepherd that is trained for hunting could take down a goose pretty quickly. Without that training however the dog will be in trouble.

Cats have instincts and are literally born knowing the basics of how to use their teeth and claws. Dogs don't have that benefit because they have been bred for trainability over the course of several thousand years. All genetic based instincts have been bred out of them so that they can be trained to serve humans. That means that even a Pit Bull, Bull Mastiff or Rottweiler that was not properly trained is going to get hurt tangling with a goose.

Tracy gave you some good advice. Service dogs are trained to be docile rather than being trained to hunt with their teeth. The best idea is to use the alternative arrangements for a while to avoid getting your dog hurt.

I hear geese can be very fierce, especially when protecting their nest. I'd
use the alternate site for a while, until Mama Goose moves on.
