I use Best Yet by Cedarcide. It smells strongly of cedar, which is what
it's made of. anyway, it's a spray that you apply weekly, or after the dog
gets wet and I give an extra spritz if we are going somewhere with a lot of
wildlife. I have never seen any creepy crawlies of any variety on either of
my dogs while using this product.
Once we were out by the farm pond, which is quite moist and full of every
variety of critter. I found a couple of ticks on myself. I had a few
minutes of panic wile going over Monty closely looking for ticks. He had
none. I continued to check him over daily for a few days just in case I had
missed something. ticks are easier to find the more they eat. No ticks,
ever. So I've started using the cedar spray on myself when I go out there.
They even sell purse sized spritzers now, so you can keep one with you.
they just came out with a shampoo called Cedar Suds. I bought a bottle, but
haven't used it yet. I have used their yard products too. They work, but
you have to apply them more often than I like to mess with. they also
encourage the growth of plants, which would be a benefit to most people.
However my backyard is woodchips and the only thing that grows through them
is weeds and I'd rather they didn't. So I'm considering what to do for this
year. Mostly there are flies, mosquitos and wasps that are problematic.

Hi all,
For those of you who have chosen to avoid commercial flea and tick
preventatives, what natural remedies do you use? Have you found these
methods to be reliably effective?
Danielle
