[nagdu] Booking vacations?

Oh neat. How did you hear about this? Maybe best to write off-list, we're
talking of taking our girls to NYC. Our older daughter wants to see a
"really big city". If cI can find a kid friendly way to do it this will move
up the list of options.

Rebecca,

The New York Pass is a swipe card that will get you entry into about 80
different attractions (museums, one bus tour, Statue of Liberty, etc.) You
pay upfront, and it works out to be cheaper than paying individually for
tours and museum entrance fees. It doesn't include concerts, though, but
still!

We've already agreed no chain restaurants!

A New York pass? What's that?
I went to NYC with a friend. We took one of the low budget busses. Cheap but
if you have kids going with you I'd not suggest it as the language by the
other passengers was really bad "way worse then Basic" as my dad would say.
I'd suggest you do Central Park, eat food you can't get at home, i.e. no
Subway or Pizza Hutt), and just see things that you've read or heard about.
Since you're going over Christmas, I'd go see the Rockettes Christmas show.
It's amazing.

Katie,

Thanks for the pointers!

I realized I forgot to update re the flight info. I was so floored that I
posted on Twitter that an airline wanted to charge one vacation rate with
the dog and one without... Within an hour they tweeted back, and the next
day I got a phone call from their call centre manager who confirmed the
agent made a big mistake and that Jenny flies free.

We're looking at getting a New York Pass. It's quite a chunk of change, but
given the amount of sightseeing we tend to do it probably won't be a
problem.

Daryl,

You've gotten plenty of email responses about the flight, so I won't comment
much there. Stick to your guns and it will work out.

The NBC Studio in Rockafeller Center has a really great tour of there
studios. They showed us the locations for the Today Show, Nightly news, and
Saturday Night Live. They were great about being accommodating, even taking
our group up in a different elevator as not to stress the dog. The tours
were pretty full that day. We also had our own escort through the whole
tour, who answered questions.

There's some great shopping and eats in Times Square. One word of caution,
not all gift shop employees understand the dog. I had an issue there once
that took a minute to speak with the manager. He said I was allowed in
"just this time." I took my sweet time figuring what to purchase, and left
with a smile. I wrote a letter which stated the laws and included the
contact info for where my dog was from.

A few months later we ended up back at the same store, with eve more guide
dogs. They were very welcoming by the door, asked us if we needed help, and
gave us a Chinese lucky coin.

But anyway. You plan to do NYC definitely do your online research, talk to
family and friends. There's a ton to do!

Katie

There's so much to do in New York that time of year. A search online will
likely point you to to many ways to celebrate!
