Today, Jan met me at home and we took the bus together into the Port
Authority, a giant bus terminal in NYC. She helped me point out the stairs
to Krokus, and we went into the terminal. After a little thought, I figured
out where we'd come out and pointed him in the right direction. He trotted
along the route out of the building and to the cross-town bus like he'd been
doing it for years. Same for the route to my office. We pointed out the
building door to him, and had him approach it a couple times. We went in
and walked around the office, saying Hi to the few people in my group who
were actually there today. Then we walked over to the subway at Grand
Central, down to the 6 platform, along it and down to the 7. He did great
walking along the platform, which is double-sided and has pillars and people
in the middle. He did great walking through the Times Square subway
station, too. We showed him my usual bus platform, then caught a different
bus, it being in the middle of the day. That bus goes to the next town from
mine, and we walked back home, past many parking lots. Krokus did fine. He
had the slows starting out, but picked it up in the city and on the way
home. Oh, and he pointed out the crosswalk poles we pointed out to him
yesterday, without any prompting.
Tomorrow, we'll meet in the city and work the usual route I walk across
town, which has a lot of construction along the way.
After that, I think we'll be done.
Krokus is still very excited about the house, and picking up everything he
can get his mouth on. He did eventually settle last night to sleep while I
watched TV, and he didn't get into any mischief overnight.
I would prefer to keep him on tie-down instead of buying a crate. The
tie-down means I watch him more carefully, though. I can't just lock him up
and go off to cook dinner, for instance.
