[nagdu] Krokus the finder

Wish my present dog wanted to retrieve. My second golden was easy to teach
retrieve. When he started bringing me things or chewing on things he
shouldn't, that was my cue to train in a reliable retrieve. Scavenging
stopped. Chewing on things he shouldn't stopped. I practiced every day with
him even when he was fully reliable, smile. I started training Jake but he
had no interest. His puppy raisers said he would retrieve small branches. He
gave the branches like gifts, soft smile. But for me he has no interest,
and I will not force a retrieve, just not my style. If the dog wants to
learn, I am right here to teach.

So teach a retrieve. This way if he throws a boot, he can find it himself.
If you drop a glove in the snow, he can find it for you. If you drop a
stylist in the home on a rug, he can find it for you.

Krokus's inner golden puppy is still picking up lots of things, though he's
getting a bit better, and better about giving up whatever it is. He's
finding stuff we haven't found in years. Today, my husband was getting
ready to go out and deal with the snow, and Krokus found him a nice, warm,
woolly hat. How about that!
