[nagdu] Writing a blog

Oh, I never, ever, ever acknowledge that they’re talking to the dog. Back when Melanie and I were still dating, I had the following conversation with some random person.

Random person: Oh, what a sweet beautiful friend you have there. What’s your beautiful friend’s name?
Me: Melanie.
RP: Oh! … Umm. … Wait, is that the dog or the lady?
Me: Oh…no. The dog’s name is Karl.

Confused the hell out of her. I think it was a her, it was about 15 years ago or so.

Of course, that’s nothing compared to when we were in the grocery store, and some woman peeked around the corner of an aisle, saw Karl, and went running. Mind you, Karl was a very handsome, very friendly Golden Retriever, and no one could possibly mistake him for a vicious attack dog, but some somehow managed it. So melanie says, “C’mon, let’s go!”, and she zips the cart around and we go chasing after this poor woman. With a shopping cart and Karl in tow. Melanie says I taught her to act like that. I don’t think you can teach that sort of thing.
