[nagdu] Carrying treats

Tracy,

I end up using my pocket, which worked better when I was using the
Zuke's minis, since they didn't crumble as much as kibble. These days,
I'm just using kibble with Loki, so I get crummy pockets. Also, the
kibble we use sometimes leaves a dust on my hands which gets annoying.
But I'm hoping Loki will not become such a treat snob as Mitzi, so I'm
sticking with the kibble for now.

I know someone who uses a chalk bag, so I want to look into trying one
of those to carry treats for when we are doing more training out and
about. I also have a small fanny pack that I use in summer, since I can
also carry bags and whatnot that I don't have coat pockets for. If I put
the treats in the main pouch, I can dip in and get them quickly. That
won't do for dress up, though. In that case, I use a pocket of my purse
and just live with the delay. I use Las Vegas style treating to
reinforce the clicker or my verbal marker, and it seems to work once the
dog is trained, at least with the non-food-motivated poodles. So once
we're into that mode, the delay in getting the treat to the dog doesn't
seem to cause a problem, as long as I don't take too long fumbling. I
could never manage with plastic bags in my pockets, either.

Good luck, and do tell if you find a miracle solution that puts treats
ready to hand without leaving crumbs in pockets! :)
