Marion,
I have been given the same information about Ubar, and I have also heard
that Lyft, is much berter at vetting their drivers. Do you have any info on
this side of things?

Dear all,

I think it is important to know a few things about Uber in order to
make an informed choice. Though Uber asserts they screen their drivers, the
screening consists of inspecting their driver license, not a background
check, as required by taxicab regulators. Furthermore, Uber drivers do not
need to have a commercial driver license as taxicab drivers do. Uber drivers
are only required to have the minimum insurance required by the state in
which the vehicle is registered which may be as low as $10,000 per person or
$20,000 per incident. Finally, vehicles used by Uber are not required to be
mechanically inspected for soundness; they only need to be 10 years old or
less. I have never used Uber because our taxicab regulator in Tampa has
issued a cease & desist order to them, so they cannot operate in the county.
As for accessibility, uber claims they train their drivers in the
requirements of the ADA; however, they also assert they exempt their drivers
from carrying service dogs if they have an allergy to dog dander or have a
religious objection. Well, they either abide by the ADA or they do not!

Fraternally yours,
Marion Gwizdala

Hi Marsha!

I've used Uber a couple of times now and have only had positive experiences.

When you first open the app, there should be 3 buttons at the bottom. The
first one from the left, should be UberX. That is the regular car (&
cheapest). So you should click on that one. Then there should be a button in
the middle of the screen that says, "set your current location), if it is
correct tap it, if not, at the top of the screen is a place to enter your
current location.

Then you'll do the same thing for your destination.

When a driver is enroute, you will get his/her name, the type & color of the
car & the license plate.

Good luck! Let me know if I can be of assistance!

HTH,
Anne Currie

I can't comment on that at this point, but would like to give it try, before
making any assumptions.

confused, there are buttons at the top, that say like black car and suv. How
do I get a regular car? How do I get an estimate? How do I set my
destination? And general use of how to work the app would be appreciated!

As such, I may have used dictation and had made attempts to mitigate errors.
Please do not be hesitant to ask for clarification as necessary.
