Hi Danielle,
When I teach follow, I first start in an area I know well, I first outl'ine a route with my sighted friend so that I know if my dog deviates from it. Then we gradually work up to more complex routes. I also use a very heavy rate of reinforcement with treats while teaching the follow.
I'm Deafblind, so can't rely on sound cues to make sure the dog follows, so I work on it quite a bit, toward the end of her training. "
I know you are Deafblind too, and if you use an FM system, I would give the transmitter to the person you are following and have them give you feedback.
I have taught all my dogs to follow and they have not had any problems working or done poor work while following.

Also, they do not recommend you do this because the dog could risk not paying as much attention. Is this true for those of you handlers who have worked multiple dogs?
