Hi all,
Well, as the subject line states, I am going to retire my Jada.
mainly she is having trouble following commands in high stress situations (when I’m in a hurry or the route in unfamiliar to me) she is very patterned and doesn’t do well with mixing up routes. This is becoming problematic as I am learning new routes around campus.
I made the call to my trainer at Leader today, and I am hoping to hear back from them soon. In the mean time, I am going to start the re-train application.
I am hoping that I will either be eligible for in-home training so I can continue my summer classes, or I will be going to the campus in July to be re-matched.
I have to say, a guide dog is my number 1 preferred mode of transport. I’ve had to use a cane around campus a few times in recent weeks, and I am still good with a cane, just a lot slower at traveling, and I find a lot more things than I want to!

Another reason I think it is time for Jada to go live with her grandparents is that when she doesn’t get my undivided attention, she acts out.
For example, Last night I was asleep, but Jada wanted me to pet her (guess she had a nightmare or something) I am a pretty heavy sleeper, so I didn’t notice her trying to get my attention. She proceeded to jump on my desk and eat… shock shock, a chocolate bunny. Luckily it was milk chocolate and I didn’t need to take her to the vet (again) but yes, that happened.
I am keeping her on a tie-down under my desk or in her crate when she is not actively either being watched by my roommate or she is with me.
Anyway.
I will keep you all updated through this process..

Thanks,

Abby and the currently sleeping Jada
