Lori, I'm so glad your dog was able to stay strong during a very stressful situation. It sounds like the staff at the eye doctors were very educated and handled the situation.
I hope the eye drops work for you.
Best of luck.

>> This afternoon I had an eye doctor appointment to check the eye pressure in my left eye. When Gipp and I got back in the exam room the medical assistant tried taking my eye pressure with the regular machine that you have to put your chin on and forehead against so she could take my eye pressure. But she couldn't get my eye pressure with the machine. So she went and got someone else and this other person got the hand held machine that takes eye pressure readings. This other person took 2 eye pressure readings with the hand held machine and the first eye pressure reading she got was 32 and then she took it again and got a 27 eye pressure reading the second time. Then we went out into the back waiting room and waited for about ten minutes and was called back again to another exam room and waited for Dr. Muckley to come in and see me. While I was waiting for Dr. Muckley to come in the other medical assistant took my eye pressure for a third time since the first two

>>
>> Dr. Muckley came in and she mentioned about my eye pressure being high this time around and usually my eye pressure has been staying around the range of 16 to 18 which is good for me and is keeping my eye stable. Dr. Muckley had a look at my eye using the machine to see in the eye.
>>
>> She explained one possible cause for my eye pressure to go up is the eye creates fluid and sometimes the fluid can't drain like it's supposed to because of it being blocked. So she put me back on another eye drop, a generic version of Xalatan. I take this eyedrop at night before going to bed. I still continue to take my other two eyedrops I've been taking along with this new eyedrop which I have taken in the past.
>>
>> She wants to see me back in a month to see if the generic version of the Xalatan is helping to lower my eye pressure and then if it's not then she's going to want me to see a glaucoma specialist.
>>
>> We left the exam room, turned left and walked about three or four steps than I stopped because I had a question about my other eyedrops so I was talking to the medical assistant. While I was talking Rick saw another patient in the waiting room with a dog. The dog didn't have a harness on and Rick was focused on them. As the woman and her dog started to walk in Rick told me to put Gipp against the wall. He could tell the woman was blind. Suddenly her dog saw Gipp and started to pull her. The woman almost fell and let go of the leash. Rick was able to grab the dog and stop him since he was between the dog and Gipp. The the woman was yelling and screaming calling the dogs name and saying she didn't know where her dog was. By then about 8 medical personal came out to see what was going on. One of the medical staff gave the dog back to the woman. They started to walk her down the hallway with her dog and the dog pulled her over towards Gipp. Both dogs sniffed noses and su
> ddenly the other dog started going after Gipp. Since Rick was standing by both dogs he started to push the other dog back at the same time a doctor grabbed the dogs leash which the woman still had in her hand and he pulled the dog back.
>>
>> I backed Gipp up into the room I just came out of until the other dog passed by. The doctor that had pulled the dog's leash asked the woman if she wanted him to take the dog, which she did. The staff guided the woman and her dog to the back waiting room.
>>
>> I was so proud of Gipp because he just stood there when the other dog started the trouble. They started wondering if the dog was a guide dog. Dr. Muckley told me that she would find out and if it wasn't a service dog the woman would have to take the dog out immediately. She came back a few minutes later and told me what happened. The woman removed the harness so she could let her dog relieve itself. The woman's brother was in the back waiting room holding the dog's harness.
>>
>> What we think happened was the brother came in and went to the back waiting area leaving the woman and her dog by themselves. Rick says when he first saw the woman there was no one with her and the dog. The woman was totally blind and were not sure who was the patient, her or her brother. Rick thinks it might of been the brother and when they called his name he went in the back and didn't wait for his sister.
>>
>> By the time this was over we had ten or twelve medical personal in the area. For the next ten minutes everyone was talking about what happened and how the other dog should not have acted the way it did. Later Rick told me that when he pushed the dog back he could feel the dog's tooth hit his thumb. Rick told me he didn't think he just acted. All he wanted to do is get the other dog away from Gipp. I don't know what school the dog came from. Gipp showed everyone on how a guide dog is supposed to act. I was so very proud of my boy.
