[nagdu] Wanted: opinions about guide dogs

I totally feel stupid for not mentioning that one. The cruel and
unforgiving West Michigan winter is the very thing that pushed me over
the edge and made me break down and apply for a guide dog.
I was using a cane, and I got lost outside my dorm because I went out
for a burger late at night, not expecting the paths and everything
else to be covered in fresh snow. I couldn't tell the grass from the
sidewalk from the path back to my dorm, and just had to wait for
someone to come along and help. I left my phone in my room, and There
weren't many people out. I felt really crappy in that instant and
decided I had to get a dog.
I do not ever want to travel through snow and ice with a cane again.
It is an unbelievable nightmare, with lake effect snow, unshovelled
paths, and gigantic snow drifts. Just oh no!
After that winter, I could just tell the Golden Guy "Let's go home,"
and not have to worry about finding my way through 1.5-foot deep snow.
