Hi all,

This thread is very interesting to me. There is a prison in Jefferson City
(about a half an hour from where I live), where many of my textbooks have
been transcribed into Braille. I am so grateful for this because I read
Braille music and study foreign languages. They have Brailled complicated
choir pieces, portions of 20th century theory textbooks, and my French and
Italian books. We have to get requests in early, but they are timely and do
a great job. The Braille music transcriber has even found mistakes in the
print music when transcribing it into Braille.

I would like to tour the facility at some point and have been told (not by
the prison but by someone who had gone before) that neither canes nor dogs
were allowed in. But I would like to go and thank the people who were a
part of making my education more accessible to me, and I am stubbern and do
not like sighted guide. When I go, I plan to take my dog, I just need to
find a driver and schedule the time.

These people do great work. I understand that they are in prison for
committing crimes that I would probably never commit. But at the same time,
all humans make mistakes, get mixed up in the wrong crowds, and make bad
choices at one time or another. They may deserve to be in prison, but they
also deserve a chance to learn and do good in the world with their talents.
