Hi,
I have the application already filled out for LDB.
I attended there accellerated Mobility Training program.
I love the campus.
I also like the fact that if I were to have an issue with the dog, I would be able to have an instructer or a rep from the school out here to work with me on it.
I am not sure loving the campus under the circumstances is the best reason for going to Leader for a dog. You can get help from any of the schools, I think.
I have a home health care provider and she said to use my head and think about the location and travel. What did the Home Health Care provider mean by the above statement. I don't see where it makes sense, and they don't always know the right answers where such things as this are concerned, do they?

I've also applied to Guide Dogs of America.
I've gotten most of the process done with them.
All that needs to be done is me sending in the video and them calling me for an interview over the phone.
I do sort of feel as others have expressed, that you need more work before you are truly ready for a dog. Of course we each have to do what feels the best for us, weighing all of the factors as we go.

John,
I understand what you're saying. When I got my guide dog, all I knew was my college campus, and I think I only went to 2 or 3 places off campus for community service and small errands. After I got my dog, I felt more comfortable exploring the area surrounding my campus, traveling to other parts of the city, and using the fixed route bus. I was motivated to get out and go since it was necessary for my dog's well-being, and it helped me greatly as well, opening my eyes to the places and things I'd been missing by limiting myself to travel by taxi.
To be honest, some people are more confident traveling with a dog than a cane. I am one of those people, and you might be as well. And when you get another dog, maybe you'll decide a dog isn't right. But you'll cross that bridge if you get to it.

Here's a question, are you set on going to LDB for your guide dog? If you think a dog is something you really want, you definitely don't have to attend LDB for your dog. There are other schools throughout the country who will pay for your transport to and from the facility.
What is it that LDB offers to you that you can't find in other programs? Maybe applying to a different school is an option.

Just some food for thought.
