I don't understand it, I thought sighted folks
couldn't join NFB?

Melissa, How do you know people hit your dog intentionally at the convention
with their canes? I mean this in all sincerity. And yes, there is antidog
literature; it is a part of our history. Of course there are anti dog folks
in the NFB. This is a fair sized organization, and there is no doubt that
element exists. The fact that we have NAGDU at all and that it has the
strength it does bears out the fact that times they are a-changing. You will
always have residual situations, and we have to meet them when we can and
educate. Some very prestigious people in the NFB won't take me in their car
when I have my dog with me; this doesn't make the NFB antidog. I am sorry
they feel that way, and I would change it if I could, but they claim dogs
had mussed their car and they had to get a new car as a result. I would
question it, but it is their right not to approve of dogs and all that. That
is not a reflection of the NFB's policy.
OK, I'm finished and so is my allotment of posts for the day.

I know some people may not
want to hear this. However,
there are people that are
antidog in the Nfb. I have
experienced this recently at
convention. When my girl was
intentionally hit with canes.
And of course it will trickle
down to the centers. Many of
our past leaders were not dog
users, and there are some
antidog things written in the
literature. But this is why
we have Nagdu, right?

Warmly,
Melissa R. Green and Pj
It is 'where we are' that
should make all the
difference, whether we believe
we belong there or not.

David, I actually think this
is a good idea. I would
think,
however that people would need
to have some training with
their
dogs first before coming to
the Center. But a Center
could do
travel training with dogs,
philosophy, Braille, tech
training,
everything. Plus dog stuff,
like taking pride in your dog
and
your skills that you have
worked for. It would be a
little
different than the other
Centers, but it could
definitely be
done. I don't see why dog
users can't walk with our dogs
with
just as much pride and freedom
as people do with canes.
