[NAGDU] How Do You Plan for Christmas

I've had the most problems with decorations and cats. My answer to that is
no more cats.

Moving right along...*smile* My first guide ate a box of chocolates that
were wrapped under the tree. My parents had come for Christmas and brought
gifts from my grandmother. They put them under the tree. I specifically
asked several times if any of the gifts were food. They answered no each
time. We left to go get dinner. My parents don't want dogs in their car,
so I don't take my guides with me when I go with them. It's a long and
complicated story and the short version is that this arrangement is fine
with me.

So we get back from dinner and Tia had eaten about half a pound of candies,
including some chocolate. I was not a happy camper. Much family drama
ensued. the take away here is that I am the only person to put gifts under
the tree.

My first year with Belle in a new house and having been just remarried, we
decided to put up a really pretty large tree with all the fancy decorations.
I put the candy and breakable ornaments up high on the tree. I was careful
about what I put out and where. I thought it was all dog proof and it was,
for the most part. We had put tinsel on the tree. You know the strings of
shiny stuff that is supposed to look like icicles or something. Well that
stuff is a static electricity nightmare. Belle would walk close to the tree
and the tinsel would be attracted to her electrically. This fascinated her,
which led to her wanting to eat the stuff, which is bad. I pulled it all
off the tree. It was sticking to sweaters and getting all over the place
and was a general misery anyway. Take away here, avoid tinsel. I don't
even know if they make the stuff any more. It's like the Christmas version
of Easter grass...horrible stuff.

These days I'm rather turning into a Scrooge. I'm at the place where I
dread getting out the decorations because they are constantly in the way and
then I just have to pack it all up in a few weeks anyway. My parents are
coming for Christmas this year and Mom has told me that she really thinks we
need to put up the tree. I told her I'll put a string of lights on my
rubber tree plant. It's almost the size of a real tree! LOL

Happy Holidays!

I have been thinking a lot about Christjmas decorations and dogs. It is a
tough time of year for the dogs. New smells, new stuff to sniff and test out
with the mouths? What do you do to keep your dogs safe from Christmas stuff.
