[NAGDU] Going through airport security with your dog

A friend of mine puts his dog on a sit stay, makes a long leash and walks
through and calls his dog. I don't think he lets go of the leash. I have
artificial joints so I set off the detector, dog or not. So I just walk
through with my dog and we both get patted down. I actually really like
those x-ray booths they have now, but they are too small to take a dog in so
not very convenient in that way if you're traveling alone.

Subject: [NAGDU] Going through airport security with your dog

Morgan,
I flew home from GEB after attending class there. We were a month-old
team, and still, when I when through airport security, I left my dog
in a sit-stay as I went through the scanner, then called him through.
It is important for the dog to go through separately, since their
collar, leash, and harness (if you leave it on) will likely set off
the scanner due to their metal components.
I understand your concerns, but your dog shouldn't have an issue with
staying and obeying commands in the presence of distractions. The
likelihood of anyone bothering your dog during the brief time in a
security line is almost negative.

Strangely, my dog has gone through some scanners without setting them
off. They probably weren't working correctly.

A wooden or plastic cane would help going through the scanner. It
would be nicer than having a person guide you. Security agents make
things far more clumsy, awkward, and complicated than they need to be.
