[nagdu] Stinky feet!!!

Heya Martha,

Jenny only ever licks her feet when she has been wearing her her boots; the boots come off and she licks her feet.

I have probably not cleaned the boots as much as I should; so just now I turned them inside out, and at least one of them was super grimy! So now they are drying on the counter.

As for the fur between the paw pads, her front paws have a bit more fur, so I trimmed it (badly), and washed her paws with a cloth, warm water and a little tiny bit of soap. She is a happy girl and her paws are a bit less stinky!

    Hi, Daryl.

I would call your vet. It could be a fungal or bacterial infection that needs to be treated.

Is your dog licking or chewing her feet? Any lumps or bumps between the toes or between the pads? Any signs of lameness? Does she have lots of hair between the pads that could be holding dirt, etc?

As far as washing the feet, just use warm water and try to get it between the pads to really flush things out. Some people use a shallow pan or tray, fill it with warm water and place each paw in it and have there dog stand on the leg to force the water between the pads. This can be tricky, though, because if your dog fusses about this, the pan can tip and spill and make a big mess. If your dog will get in a bathtub, you can fill it with an inch or two of water and put your dog in the tub...

Have you washed and dried the boots?

Good luck getting rid of that smell. P! U!
