If the schools did not have blind people to train guide dogs then they would
find otherways to provide work for then selves, such as dogs for vets and
lot easer for dog schools to raise money when it comes vets, thay could get
government to pay cost of dog training. If we come to much of bother to them
tthay will find other ways to make money and provide for staf and operation.
The NFB for long time was notin favor of guide dogs thay felt that blind
person should be able to get around with out guide dog use a white cane. The
NFB stands for blind people beeing treated like rest and have respect.
Sighted public does not get dogs or lot of things for free. Please
understand me the next time I go for guide dog, I will try to pay one by
self or my family if I can find money to do that. Yes I have found that
because school given me a guide dog Ihave giving up some freedom and there
is cost to my respect.

When people were discussing this resolution, I kept hearing about our dogs
are gifts given to us and all this money is being paid so we can have guide
dogs. Yes, a guide dog is one way to independently travel but I think many
people are romanticizing this or something.

Howard,
Where would we be if people didn't give of their money for guide dogs?
We'd figure it out. This attitude of being grateful for other people's
charity is IMHO part of the problem. It takes away or tries to take away a
person's power. Being told that we should be grateful for the kindness of
others because where would we be without it is something the NFB has fought
for over 75 zears to combat.
Where would we be without NAC? Where would we be without schools for the
blind, for countless kinds of charity that we are told to accept be quiet
and be grateful to have.
Charity comes with a cost, as you said, and I, for one, will not pay it.
The guide dog programs get quite a bit from their graduates. The trainers
and support staff get pretty well-paying jobs. The organization gets great
PR. The graduates are a fundimental part of the process and without them
there would be no training programs. So rather than being treated like
children who should be grateful, we should be treated like partners. With
all the respect and mutual accord that involves.
