[nagdu] Perceptions

I would have to say that we all probably fall short on this one from time to
time. I have had experiences where I was a little lost and/or the dog just
wasn't finding something, and I berate it because it ought to be able to. In
the final analysis though, I haven't given enough direction. I've heard
myself say things that would imply dogs are superior beings, and I really do
have to check myself on it. It happens with your children, too, if you
aren't careful.

Hi.

Unfortunately, I've actually heard some guide dog users say,, "I have my
dog; now I got my life back. At one of my guide dog graduations, at least
one person said that. I think this perpetuates the perception that guide
dogs are super heroes. Sometimes they are; like the one who got between the
user and the buss, but using a guide dog is all about team work. Without a
good handler, it goes without saying that the guide dog doesn't work well.
