About Star Gazer's comment that maybe the therapy dog organization was concerned about me, I don't think that is true because I participated in the past in a similar program called "Everybody Wins" in which elementary school kids read to adults.  So I know, thanks, how it is done and wasn't planning on lecturing small children, if that was your concern.   I mentioned my previous experience to this group as well as my having worked in a mentoring program for disadvantaged youth who wanted help on the road to college.  I sincerely feel that their concerns are more about them and their stereotypes than they are about me in any regard.  

I also am amused by the stereotype here from  that I might not be able to relate to small children because of my previous profession as an English professor since no one knows what my innovative methodology was or how my classrooms were managed.
