Tracy,
So sorry this happened!
The gentle leader is a good tool for keeping a watch on his head movements.
I also think teaching him to lay his head on your foot is a great
strategy for keeping him out of trouble.
Another thing you can do is sit on the bus with your dog between your
feet, and one of your feet between his paws. That way, when he puts
his head down, your foot is right there.
Glad your boy is okay.
