Hi Vivianna,
Years ago when I had my black standard Poodle guide dog and my Poodle was
at the groomers being groomed. Well the groomers called to let me know that
I could come and pick up my dog because he was ready to go. The groomer also
told me my Poodle had contracted ring werms or something and I had my dog
on heart werm proventitive and the groomer said that the dog can pick up
stuff by just walking through another dogs poop. I was mad and ferious at
the irresponsible people in my apartment complex who have dogs but don't
clean up after their dogs.
I went to my apartment management and told them that my guide dog at that
time had contracted ring werms or some other parasight from stepping in
another dogs poop. Management said that they can't do anything unless they
catch the dog in the act and the owner doesn't pick up after the dog but
management has to know who the dog belongs to.
We have dog stations around on the apartment complex grounds and I have
personally watched a man with his dog go past the dog station where you can
grab a bag but the man let his dog poop where ever he wanted and when
the dog was finished the man walked back passed the dog station where he
could get a bag and pick up after his dog but instead he just went back to
his apartment and never picked up after his dog.
We do have a person who was hired to come in and goes around and picks up
dog poop. But honestly she doesn't do that good of a job. My fiancee Rick
will have to go out with our pooper scooper and pick up piles of dog poop
that he finds so that I don't step in it. My thinking is if someone can't
be a responsible dog owner and doesn't want or chooses not to pick up
after their dog well then they shouldn't own a dog simple as that.
After all when I'm living in a apartment complex with other tendonts who
have dogs and some tendonts have children everyone in the apartment complex
should be respectful of others that live around them and pick up after their
dogs and to help keep our apartment complex grounds clean from piles of dog
poop everywhere. When I moved into his apartment complex 20 years ago, pets
were not premitted on the property except service animals but since then
it's changed and it's the biggest mistake that the management made by
allowing pets on the premisses.
I don't want to have my current dog picking up some disease from some other
dog because the owner clearlydoesn't care about picking up after their dog.
I also have heard of guide dog users not being legally bound to pick up
after our dogs but you know what, I still pick up after my dog anyway
because I think it's the right thing to do. I'll get off my soapbox now and
be quiet. Take care.
