[NAGDU] Apartment Complex- Picking up poop

Hello all, I have not read through all of the post on this topic. However, I will shoot in here with my two cents worth. Having been a guy dog handler for almost 14 years, I can honestly say that I pick up from my dog almost all of the time. The exception of courses when we let him out in our backyard. I have been on the bad side of stepping in other people's dog poop, and let me tell you, cleaning the shoes is not a fun experience. Obviously, if my dog has serious diarrhea, picking that up is difficult at best if not impossible. However even in that situation I do try to make an effort. As for DNA testing of the dogs fecal matter to roll him or her out as the culprit, I would have to agree with others if this expense is paid for then why not. I've lived in apartments in the past and have never had a problem. However, as I mentioned above I tend to pick up after my dog so I've had no issues

Regarding picking up in public places and not finding the trashcan one thing that I would do is make sure to always carry pick up poop bags so that I can at least put it in there. If there is no trashcan that I can find I will put the bag on the edge of the sidewalk probably against the gutter so that the chances of it being stepped on are minimal. If there is a physical reason preventing you from safely picking up there are alternatives. For example I think Sandra wrote that she hires a pick up service to come clean her yard and that is an alternative way of getting around this. My opinion that everyone should pick up after their dog is from whether you are a dog owner who is sided, a dog owner who is blind, or a guide dog handler. I want to be treated the same as other people so I want to have the same standards. I don't want the bar lowered for me just because I am blind.

> Luckily I do not live in an apartment in so I don't have to worry about this. If the dogs are relieved in the front yard we definitely pick up, but I confess that in the backyard we don't always. There is a dog run and the dogs go there. I have considered hiring a service to come do some general cleanup here and there. The nice thing is that when the dog goes in the backyard is always in one area so you don't have to worry about walking into a minefield when you stroll in the backyard for some fresh air.
