[NAGDU] Montana snow

Hi Cindy:

I used to wait until the snow melted enough and then I would use a pooper
scooper in the area where my dog would go in my back yard. This would get
most of it up but sometimes I would have a sighted person look to be sure I
had not missed anything. I know a lot of guide dog handlers who have to
just wait and get sighted help once the snow melts. Last year I began to
use a local pet waste removal company. They come once a week, in all kinds
of weather If the weather is too bad they come out as soon as possible.
They usually charge 10 for one pick up per week. They take off $2 per week
for guide and service dogs. I found them by typing "pet waste removal with
my zip code " into the Google search box. This has taken a lot of pressure
off me and made my housing complex manager happy too. As I get older I was
finding it very difficult to bend down and pick up after Eva. After not
being able to get back up again a few times I knew I had to find another way
to keep the back yard clean. This company has been great. I am sure you
can find them in your area too. I know as guide dog handlers it is our
responsibility too pick up after our dogs but sometimes some of us need a
little extra help to get the job done. Good luck to all of you trying to
pick up in the snow ice and cold.

Sandra and Eva

Dar has just brought p an interesting point. If I am picking up after my
dog, it has to be immediately or I am likely not going to find it unless I
have someone sighted directing me to it. Dar has said (and I believe this to
be true) that she will have to pick up later. How will you do this, Dar?
Will you get help? Has anyone found an efficient way to do it? I had a
"pooper scooper" cleaning up my yard. It wasn't that we weren't working with
the dogs and picking up; other dogs come by and poop there and ours
sometimes are traveling poopers. I know we are now going to have a long
thread on this, but I really do wonder how someone with no sight can go out
after the fact and pick up.

We have 20 inches of snow,
I stand in the door way letting her out to go where she wishes to go.
I figure I can get out again when weather is better to pick up after her.
Also we are to get wind chill minus 40 degrees.
I don't know how to get her to go fast, she takes her sweet time.
We are fine in the house no matter how board she gets.
We play toys then I feel she needs to entertain herself just a bit chewing a
bone and just relaxing.
I don't let her go out every five minutes because she is board.
Who ever asked for a white Christmas sure got one.
We will have to get someone to get the snow blower over to get us out, then
we can go places again.
Safe at home is just rite for us.
I don't have baby socks to put on her feet nor do I have boots her size.
We will get threw this the best we know how, just wanted to share how much
of everything we got.
Plus sharing how we are getting threw it all.
Playing and just relaxing.
